Watermelon jam - a recipe for making jam from watermelon rinds for the winter.
This simple recipe for watermelon rind jam comes from my childhood. Mom cooked it often. Why throw away watermelon rinds, if you can easily make such a tasty delicacy from them without any additional costs.
The little that the preparation of our delicious homemade preparation will require of us:
- 1 kg. watermelon rind
- 1.2 kg. Sahara
- a packet of vanillin
- 1.5 tea. lie soda
How to make jam from watermelon rinds.
The rinds of recently eaten watermelon need to be washed, the pulp removed, and the green skin around the rinds peeled.
Then cut them into small pieces about 5-8 cm long, prick each piece with a fork.
You need to dissolve baking soda in a glass of hot water. Mix this solution with another five glasses of water.
Fill the treated watermelon rinds with our solution, close the lid and now you can “forget” about the preparation for four hours.
While our crusts are soaking, let's think about preparing the filling.
Pour half of the sugar required according to the recipe into another container and pour three glasses of water into it. Place the water with granulated sugar in it on the fire and boil for 15-20 minutes.
After four hours, drain the water from the crusts and rinse them well (several times) in a colander under cold running water.
Then, dip the crusts into boiling sugar filling and cook for 15 minutes.
Remove the boiled watermelon jam from the stove and leave to steep overnight.
In the morning, pour the remaining sugar according to the recipe into our preparation, bring the jam to a boil, and cook for three hours over low heat, remembering to stir (to avoid burning).
Two minutes before the end of cooking, pour vanillin into the jam. Pour hot into sterile jars and seal them.
The jam from their watermelon rinds turns out like candied fruit, thick and aromatic. I often use it as a filling for strudel. And children, in general, call my jam “candy.” This is a good recipe that can be prepared at home for the winter - nothing will go to waste for a good housewife.
