They say that the last fruits and vegetables of the season are the most delicious. And this is true - the last garden apples are fragrant, sweet, juicy and smell amazingly fresh. Perhaps this is just apparent freshness, but when you open a jar of apple compote in winter, you immediately remember summer - it smells so delicious.
I didn’t miss the opportunity and quickly made such a delicious preparation. Step-by-step photos taken during the cooking process will help you easily prepare a simple apple compote for the winter. The preparation recipe is very quick, since we will make the preparation without sterilization.
What do we need for one three-liter jar:
apples (small, any variety) – ½ part of a three-liter jar;
granulated sugar – 800 grams;
water - how much will go into the jar if there are apples in it.
How to cook apple compote for the winter without sterilization
We collect or buy fresh apples. It is better if these are small fruits. Canned apples from compote are also quite edible, therefore, it is better to leave the stems on the fruits so that it is convenient to take later.
We immediately weigh out the sugar so that it is convenient to prepare the sugar filling for the compote.
The compote will turn out sweet, so it can be diluted when serving.
Place washed fresh apples in jar, and there may be fewer or more of them, but the compote will still be tasty.
Fill the workpiece with boiling water through a wide funnel.You need water up to the “shoulders” of the jar - as in the photo, since the volume of water will increase when we add sugar to it.
We remove the funnel, close the jar with a lid and leave for half an hour so that the apple peel becomes soft and its permeability to sugar syrup increases.
Drain the water from the jar into a large saucepan, bring it to a boil over high heat and immediately add sugar.
The solution must be stirred until the sugar dissolves so that it does not stick to the bottom.
Pour boiling syrup over the apples - the liquid in the jars will reach the neck.
We roll up the jars of apple compote, put them on the lid and wrap them in a blanket for a day.
The finished delicious apple compote can be stored at home, in the underground, in a vegetable pit, practically until the new harvest.
