When the physalis “looks out” it can be collected. The vegetable has a sticky skin. It is bitter and sticks to your hands, but it is its presence that allows the fruit to be stored longer. Before use, this gluten comes off easily after a few minutes of blanching.

Proper storage of fresh physalis

Elastic fruits should be placed in boxes with holes and the product should be left in a cool room (+12 °C...+14 °C). Slightly unripe specimens can be placed in a warm place (+25...30 °C) to allow them to mature. This will take about two weeks.

Under such conditions, ripe physalis can be stored for 2 months, but not very ripe ones even until spring. Although at first glance the fruits are very fragile, they are quite hardy: even fallen specimens can lie on the soil and be suitable for consumption for up to 10 days.

From time to time, boxes with physalis need to be sorted out in order to throw out any rotten fruits. It is worth mentioning one more important point: if the weather was sunny at the time of harvesting, then the plant can be stored much longer than something that was “caught in the rain.”
