How to store kohlrabi cabbage at home

Proper preparation of kohlrabi before storage

But if it is not possible to accurately determine the date of collection, then you can be guided by the diameter of the stem fruit. When it reaches 8 centimeters, kohlrabi can be removed from the garden.
Such cabbage cannot be allowed to wait for the first frost in the garden. After exposure to extreme cold, she will not be able to lie down for long. Kohlrabi must be collected correctly - this is also the key to successful storage.
- Stem fruits need to be collected in sunny weather.If it is damp outside, the vegetable may gain excess moisture, and this may cause rotting in the near future.

- The earthen lump from the root vegetable should be cleaned by hand.
- All damaged and rotten cabbage must be cleaned. This type of kohlrabi is not suitable for storage.
- If you plan to preserve stem fruits for a long time, then the root system cannot be cut off, and the leaves must be cut off, leaving a distance (2 cm) from the vegetable.

The best places to store kohlrabi at home
If you simply store cabbage in the room, it will remain in good condition for only a few days. Therefore, if there is no suitable room for storing it, then it is better to preserve kohlrabi.
In a refrigeration device
Typically, urban residents who do not have a basement or cellar resort to this method.The shelf life of kohlrabi in the refrigerator is one month and one week. But before sending it to the device, the vegetable must be properly prepared:
- the soil should be shaken off from kohlrabi and the tops should be cut off, leaving small cuttings (harmful bacteria can get inside the stem through a cut in the pulp);
- then each copy must be wrapped in thick paper or a damp piece of fabric and placed in a plastic bag (you cannot close it completely, you need to leave a gap for air to enter);
It is best to place the bag of kohlrabi on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.
In a cellar or basement
This saving method is the most common. In such a place it is easy to create all the necessary conditions. Cabbage in a cellar or basement will remain in suitable condition for 3 to 5 months. When storing vegetables, you need to make sure that the roots are at the bottom, this will help maintain juiciness.
Kohlrabi should be placed in a basement or cellar in boxes or wide baskets, the bottom of which should be covered with a layer of wet sand. The stem fruits should not touch each other. Containers with vegetables should be placed on racks or gratings. Thus, the product will not rot and rodents will not be able to get to it. Kohlrabi can also be stored in a suspended state.
On the balcony
