In order not to spoil the delicious product, you should know about some important points about its conservation.

How much and how best to store chum salmon at home

Chilled chum salmon at temperatures below 0 °C will remain in a suitable condition for 2-3 days. In order to extend this period to 10 months, the fish must be placed in a freezer. Chum salmon, like any other fish, cannot be re-frozen. Such a process will “kill” its taste and beneficial properties.

In room conditions, chum salmon will spoil in just 2 hours.

On a refrigerator shelf under ice shards in a deep container, this salmon fish can be stored for a whole month. You can extend the shelf life of a cleaned carcass to 12 months if you rub it on the outside and inside with salt, pack it in an airtight container and put it in the freezer.

If you rub fresh gutted chum salmon with salted lemon juice and wrap the fish in a natural piece of fabric, it will remain usable for 4 days.

Frozen smoked and salted chum salmon can be stored for up to six months; in the refrigerator, red fish prepared in this way will remain edible for 2-3 days. These varieties of chum salmon must be sent for saving wrapped in foil or parchment.

It is worth remembering that poisoning from spoiled fish can have serious consequences, so if there are doubts about the quality of chum salmon, it is better to throw it away.
