There are many ways that will allow you to “protect” the maximum amount of nutrients and vitamins in parsnips for a long time.

Methods for storing parsnips

In the cellar or basement

This option is considered the simplest, and therefore the most common. Parsnips for storage in the basement can be placed in boxes, the bottom of which must be covered with wet sand and the roots must be dug into it so that the vegetables have a 1 cm top.

Another vegetable product can be placed on shelves covered with newspaper. The parsnips should not touch each other either in the first or in the second case.

On the balcony

In such a room, parsnips should be stored in a box with damp sand (it should always be wet, so water should be added from time to time). The optimal temperature is considered to be +3 °C.

In the ground

Parsnips can be perfectly preserved until spring by leaving them right in the garden bed where they grew. But only if the winter in a particular region is quite warm.

To do this, you need to hill up the bed by 5 cm, cut off the foliage from the parsnips, and cover the top with a thick ball of straw. You can harvest such a harvest already at the beginning of spring, but the main thing is not to miss the moment when the tops begin to sprout (seeds will form on them, which also need nourishment - parsnip vitamins), because otherwise the plant will lose its beneficial qualities.

How to store processed parsnips

Dried parsnips

Dry vegetable slices should be stored in a place where it is always dark and dry (room temperature is also suitable).

It is best to store such a preparation (seasoning for different dishes):

  • in bags made of natural (“breathable”) fabric;
  • in bags with zip fasteners;
  • in glass jars that close tightly.

Dried parsnips can be used for a whole year if you follow all the necessary nuances and ensure that the temperature does not exceed + 20 ° C.

Frozen parsnips

Parsnips in the freezer perfectly preserve their taste. You can freeze it however you like, either whole or sliced. The temperature of the freezer should not be higher than 15 °C.

You cannot neglect any of the rules for storing parsnips at home in winter, and then you will be able to enjoy its original taste for a long period.
