Rules and periods for storing pasta

In order for pasta to be stored in the best conditions, it is necessary:

  • observe the temperature regime (the thermometer readings should range from 20 to 22 ˚С);
  • monitor humidity (this is the main enemy of pasta), it should not exceed 13%;
  • try to ensure that the room where you plan to store the product is dry, dark and ventilated, and free of rodents and insects.

Pasta in original, unopened packaging can be used for 12 months. But if you place them in a sealed special glass or plastic container (these are even sold for spaghetti). The shelf life, also under the right conditions, will be the same. Regarding packaging, it is best to give preference to one that is made from glass. Plastic can release harmful substances into the product. It would be correct to cut off that part of the packaging where there is a marking with the expiration date and stick it on the jar.

There are varieties of pasta that are prepared not just with water and flour, but also with the addition of cottage cheese, milk or eggs. This product can be stored for no more than 5 months. Some pasta manufacturers also add an ingredient in the form of tomato paste to the product. This variety can only be stored for 3 months.

Rules for storing boiled pasta

Pasta cooks quickly, but cannot be cooked for later, like cabbage rolls. Naturally, another important fact here is whether they are cooked correctly. Otherwise, after a few hours they will stick together or dry out. One way or another, it is not always possible to eat a pasta dish in one sitting. In this case, you must remember that you cannot leave them on the stove. After waiting for the pasta to cool, you should immediately put it in the refrigeration unit, placing it in an airtight container.

If the dish was without sauce, then it should be poured with sunflower or olive oil. Thus, it will be possible to keep the pasta suitable for up to two days. When it turns out that the shelf life (2 days) has passed, and it’s a pity to throw away the dish, then you can eat it, for a maximum of the 3rd day, but before using it, you must boil or fry it again.

Is it possible to eat pasta after the expiration date?

It often happens that a pack of pasta is found only when cleaning the kitchen cabinet, somewhere at the bottom. To make sure that they can still be eaten, you need to check whether the package contains pests, moldy fragments and small fragments. A musty smell is also a warning sign. If all these indicators are not available, then you can cook a small amount of pasta and try to see if its taste differs from the fresh product.But it’s best not to take risks and eat pasta according to the expiration date.
