Rules for choosing marmalade
This moment cannot be missed, since the correct choice of sweetness determines its shelf life. Only a high-quality product can be stored for a long time.
- Marmalade slices should have an elastic structure.
- You need to choose a confectionery product without cracks over the entire surface.
- The edges of the marmalade should be smooth - this is one of the evidence of the freshness of the product.
- You should not buy marmalade that has a sticky or moist surface.
- Treats with artificial ingredients and preservatives last longer, but such a product can be harmful to health.
- Marmalade in damaged packaging is also not suitable.

By the way, it’s good if the sweetness is in transparent packaging. This way it is easier to see.
Storage conditions for marmalade
The gelled product absorbs foreign odors very well, and also quickly deteriorates if it is exposed to sunlight and moisture.Therefore, it is necessary that products with a strong aroma are not stored near marmalade. Naturally, airtight packaging will help protect the delicacy from such exposure.
The place intended for storing sweet products must be well ventilated. Also, the humidity in it should not be higher than 75-80%. If there is excess moisture, the slices may stick together or become moldy. Too low humidity: also not good - the product will dry out and crack. The optimal storage temperature is the thermometer reading from +15 to +20 °C.
How long can one or another type of marmalade be stored?
When choosing marmalade, you must remember that its approximate shelf life depends on the main gelling component and the type of packaging:
- You can store packaged or weighed treats for half a month;
- up to 2 months – purchased in polyethylene or polymer packaging;
- month - slices that do not contain sugar;
- approximately 45 days – sweetness with agaroid;
- 2 months – fruit and berry product (shaped) and 3 months – plastic;
- 3 months – molded marmalade with agar and pectin;
- 2 months – fruit-jelly product.
That is, not all types of sweet products are stored for the same amount of time.
Storing marmalade in the refrigerator and freezer
In a refrigerator
After purchase, the treat must be placed in a refrigeration unit only after opening the package. Before that, the sweetness is quite suitable for consumption even outside the refrigerator (of course, within the expiration date).
The unpacked marmalade must be placed in a hermetically sealed tray or glass container. It can be protected even more reliably from drying out by wrapping it in foil or film.
In the freezer
Under the conditions of this device, at a temperature of -18°C, the delicacy can be stored even longer than the stated period, but we must not forget about the tightness of the container and the “right neighbors”, that is, those with a strong aroma.
Storing marmalade is not a complicated process at all; it is only important to follow all the necessary recommendations.
