How to store sugar at home
It is important for every housewife to know how to properly store sugar in an ordinary apartment. It is not at all difficult to preserve this product; its shelf life is more than long, but if you do something wrong, you can “lose” its quality.
Considering the “capriciousness” of granulated sugar, not a single rule should be neglected when storing it, otherwise it will not be possible to use it for confectionery purposes for as long as possible.
The main nuances of proper storage of sugar
Sugar's biggest enemy is moisture. If there is excess moisture, then granulated sugar loses its friability, and sugar in pieces (refined sugar) sticks together and changes color. Therefore, the container for storing the sweet product must be tightly closed and be perfectly dry.
Sugar can also absorb third-party aromas. Therefore, it is worth making sure that the container for granulated sugar is made of a material that does not absorb or release odors. That is, if you pour sugar into a can, for example from coffee, the product will acquire a coffee aroma.
If granulated sugar is stored correctly (the optimal temperature range is from 12 to 25 ° C, and air humidity should be within 70-75 percent), then it can be suitable for consumption for 4 years.
The right container for saving sugar
If sugar is purchased in a plastic bag, then after opening, naturally, there can be no question of any tightness (it can only be protected for a while by securing the edges with an ordinary clothespin).
As for cardboard packaging (this is what refined sugar is usually sold in), it absorbs moisture very well. Therefore, immediately after opening the store container, you should pour the sugar into plastic, ceramic, glass or metal packaging.
It should be taken into account that some unscrupulous manufacturers make packaging from low-quality material, and it has an unpleasant odor (sugar will acquire the same odor). Glass and ceramic containers have no disadvantages, except that they are fragile and require careful attention. Metal packaging is the most expensive, but it is high quality and durable. But here we must take into account that most metal sugar jars have a leaky lid, and the outer ball is sensitive to detergents, which can destroy it. Therefore, the aesthetic factor should not play a decisive role when choosing packaging for sugar.
Storing sugar at home is a very simple process; you just need to follow all the advice of experts in this field.
