It is worth remembering that pumpkin and sunflower seeds cannot be treated with preservatives, so they cannot be fresh for a long time.

Storing sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds last longer when dried. To save such a product, you should make small paper bags or fabric bags yourself (necessarily natural, it “breathes”). It is not correct to store in large portions. Plastic packaging is not suitable for this.

Conditions necessary for proper storage of sunflower seeds:

  • the thermometer reading should not be higher than +10 °C;
  • The optimal air humidity is considered to be 7%.

If the room is dry and cool, then the seeds will be of high quality for 6-9 months.

Sunflower seeds can be stored in the fruit compartment of the refrigerator. Under such conditions they will be usable for one year. Frozen seeds are completely tasteless after defrosting. Therefore, it is better not to use this option for storing them.

Hulled sunflower seeds should also be stored in a refrigerator, placed in a paper bag. Here they will maintain their quality for 3 months.

Humidity and high thermometer readings negatively affect the quality of seeds when saving them. They can be stored in their husks and fresh (not dried) for as long as possible.

Storing pumpkin seeds

To store pumpkin seeds for a long time, they need to be of good quality (these are extracted only from ripe, healthy pumpkins). Before sending for storage, the seeds must be properly dried and then placed in clean, dry jars with tight nylon lids. The ideal containers for storing pumpkin seeds are also considered to be plastic trays that are hermetically sealed or linen bags.

They should be stored in a place that is always dry and well ventilated (pantry, closed cabinet on an insulated balcony, kitchen cabinet, away from the heater).

Even if the product is kept in a room at a temperature from +20 °C to + 23 °C), then its suitability for consumption will remain for a whole year.

The shelf life of pumpkin seeds without shells will last up to six months. It is advisable to keep them in a cool place.

You will be able to enjoy a healthy, nutritious and aromatic product only when all the necessary wishes are met when storing pumpkin and sunflower seeds at home.
