What is the best way to store moonshine: how much and in what container
Homemade alcoholic drinks have long been more valued by consumers than store-bought ones. However, knowing a good recipe for, for example, moonshine and preparing it successfully is only half the battle.
If you decide to make moonshine yourself, then, first of all, you need to make sure that there will be it, in what and where it will be stored correctly. Otherwise, the drink will not remain in a suitable condition for a long time.
Storing moonshine at home
Once upon a time it was customary to store everything in the cellar. This place can be considered ideal for such a purpose. After all, it has stable and correct conditions. Therefore, it is very good if it is possible to store moonshine in a cellar.
For containers, it is best to opt for glass bottles (or jars). Glass does not affect moonshine in any way. A wooden barrel is also suitable for storing this alcoholic beverage. Thanks to oak substances, moonshine will acquire the taste of elite cognac, brandy or whiskey. Be sure to choose a container that closes tightly.
If it is not possible to store moonshine in a cellar, then you can use an ordinary apartment for this. The main thing is to place the drink in a dark place with a constant temperature and not near a window or near a heat source. It’s good if there is a closet, dressing room or closet (when it’s a private house).
Alternative container for storing moonshine
It is allowed to store moonshine in plastic containers (but only for 2-3 months), but it is not recommended. In this case, you need to make sure that the food-grade plastic is of high quality, otherwise you should be aware that this material emits harmful substances. And one more thing: if, while storing moonshine in a plastic container, the product begins to become cloudy, and sediment or flakes appear at the bottom of the container, then it is better to refuse such a drink.
It is strictly forbidden to store moonshine in containers made of aluminum, metal, iron and zinc. A drink stored in such a container can cause poisoning. Moonshine absorbs harmful substances from such containers.
If you put moonshine in the freezer for storage, sediment may appear in it. But it is better not to choose this method of saving. Unless you want to check the quality of an alcoholic drink. If impurities were used in the preparation of moonshine, then ice crystals will appear in it after exposure to frost. And in the case when the drink takes on a viscous form, you can be sure that it has been “deeply” cleaned. By the way, many people use the freezer as a so-called filter.
When properly stored, moonshine has an unlimited shelf life and the longer it is stored, the more “elite” it becomes.
