Rules for saving buckwheat at home
When storing buckwheat at home, you should ensure that the temperature in the room where it is located does not exceed +18 °C. After opening the store packaging, the cereal must be poured into a dry plastic or glass container with a tight lid and placed in a dark place where there are no insects. Humidity will promote the formation of mold, and the presence of beetles in the future porridge, naturally, is out of the question. Under the influence of sunlight and excessive heat indoors, buckwheat will spoil ahead of time.
A jar made of metal is also suitable for storing healthy cereals, the main thing is that its inside is not scratched. You cannot save the product in store packaging, since there is no way to seal it hermetically.
If you plan to save a large amount of buckwheat, then it must first be dried in the oven and only then placed in one container or another. To dry the cereal, you can use the “Dry Freeze” function, which is found in modern freezers.
Experienced housewives recommend putting a couple of bay leaves or 2-3 cloves of garlic along with the husks at the bottom of the package in which buckwheat will be stored. They claim that this will extend the shelf life of the cereal.
Shelf life of buckwheat at home
Most people think that buckwheat has a very long shelf life. But this is not true at all. After just 1 year and 8 months, the cereal loses its beneficial qualities, and this is only if all the parameters of the storage conditions were correctly met. Therefore, at home, where it is difficult to maintain humidity and temperature within normal limits at all times, it is advisable not to store buckwheat for more than a year. Some housewives use a refrigerator to store cereals, but in such conditions its shelf life does not become longer.
