If you store apricots incorrectly, they will quickly begin to lose moisture and, accordingly, will become less juicy. These fruits can be “lost” in a short time if you do not observe the temperature regime and do not adhere to transportation rules. Also, appropriate conditions will help protect apricots from various diseases.

Proper storage of apricots

First you need to know that you need to save apricots that have a hard surface (outwardly they resemble a slightly unripe fruit). If the fruits have any damage or suspicious spots, then they are not suitable for storage. The shelf life of apricots is also affected by proper harvesting. It is also advisable to know which variety of this fruit has the longest shelf life.

It is customary to send large quantities of fruits for saving in wooden boxes. It is very advisable not to be lazy and wrap each copy in parchment. If possible, you can purchase “special” boxes that resemble egg trays. Their fruits will be located far from each other.

If you store apricots simply by pouring them into a box, their shelf life will be significantly shorter. In addition, it is difficult to periodically inspect such fruits.

Only those apricots (preferably packed in paper or an airtight tray, rather than in cellophane) that are overripe or completely ripe can be sent for storage.

Terms and temperature conditions for storing apricots

With “warm” thermometer readings exceeding +10 °C, the apricot crop will begin to ripen quickly. These conditions are ideal for unripe fruits, but ripe fruits will quickly deteriorate at these temperatures.

The optimal shelf life for apricots is 3 weeks. After this period, they are still edible, but already crumbly and not at all as tasty as initially.

It is optimal when the temperature in the room where apricots are stored is kept at 0 ° C, and the air humidity is from 90 to 95%. Usually such conditions are in a cellar or basement. In this case, apricots can be good for about 50 days.

If you place these fruits in a refrigeration device (in the fruit compartment), then you don’t have to worry about them for 10 days. In a tray (in the refrigerator), apricots are good for up to 1 week.

These fruits can be frozen (whole and without seeds). The shelf life of such a product is more than six months. The freezing process will have almost no effect on the taste and aroma of the fruit, but the fruit will acquire a soft structure. Therefore, you shouldn’t put them in the freezer again; after that, they will resemble porridge.
