How to properly store compote
Compote is an undeniably tasty and healthy drink, but, unfortunately, a spoiled drink can easily cause poisoning, and its shelf life is not that long.
Therefore, knowing just a few important rules for storing compote will help preserve it for the required time. It is also important to be able to preserve its usefulness and not spoil the drink by storing it in sterilized form.
Rules for saving compotes
Save freshly brewed berry and fruit compote It's not difficult at all. The main thing is that the temperature at the storage location should be in the range from 2 to 14°C. Maximum it can be suitable for consumption no longer than 2 days at a minimum temperature. If it is higher (usually room temperature), the period will be shorter (5 hours).
The cooled compote must be poured into a glass or plastic container (this is not the best option, but it is more convenient to freeze the drink in it) and placed in a refrigeration unit. By the way, in the freezer the compote can remain in a suitable condition for up to several months.
You cannot leave the compote open. Otherwise, bacteria that cause fermentation will be able to get into the container with it faster. There is no need to throw away a sour drink; it can be used for making wine.
Storage compote of dried fruits and berries no different from a drink brewed from fresh fruits. But it can deteriorate after 4 days.
Cherry compote it must be stored in the same conditions as the drinks listed above, but in order for this drink not to become too sour after infusion, it should be strained 4 hours after preparation. The term of its suitability is 2 days.
Rules for storing canned compotes
This type of preparation can be stored for quite a long time. No special conditions are needed for storing canned compotes. The main thing is to follow a few important rules:
- in the place where the drink will be stored, the thermometer readings should not exceed 20 °C (a basement, cellar, pantry or cool balcony is suitable);
- You should not send compotes for storage immediately after preparation; first, you will need to observe them for some period (cloudy jars with bubbles and foam will need to be sterilized again);
- It is important to leave an inscription on each container of compote with the date when it was “spun”, especially if it is prepared from fruit with seeds; their shelf life is shorter than all others (1 year and no more, then it is harmful to health); Seedless drinks can be stored for 3 years;
- Such blanks must be checked periodically to make sure that there are no swollen or cloudy ones among them.
Following all of the above recommendations will allow you to have a delicious compote on hand for a long time, which cannot be replaced by any store-bought drink.
