How to properly store drinking water: in what and under what conditions
At first glance, it seems that there is nothing in water except a “transparent liquid,” but in fact, it contains a large amount of useful impurities, thanks to which all organisms live. Therefore, improper storage (that is, there is something in it to spoil) of clean water at home can provoke its deterioration.
Storing water is not at all difficult, but the main thing is to know what kind of dishes to choose for this and what the conditions should be.
Rules for storing drinking water
Water that is planned to be stored for some time should not be chlorinated or contain any other impurities. But in most homes, they use tap water. Therefore, it should be collected in an unclosed enamel container and left overnight. This time is enough for the chlorine to disappear. Only after such a process can the container with water be covered and sent for storage.
After boiling, the water is also stored in an enamel container, covered. After filtration, the water is poured into a glass container for storage; it is advisable to use it after no more than 2 days.
Suitable container for storing water
A glass container is considered the best option for saving water for a long time. If such a container is hermetically sealed, the water in it can be stored in a suitable condition for 3 years.
Ceramic or clay containers, barrels or metal canisters are also suitable for long-term storage of water. The only main thing is that such containers have an enameled or other neutral coating on the inside that does not release harmful substances when interacting with water.
Plastic bottles must be treated with caution. Low-quality plastic releases elements hazardous to health. Also, you should not store water in melamine containers.
Subject to the correct temperature conditions of 20-30 ° C, and if a closed plastic container (if it is a quality material) with water is placed in a dark place, it can be suitable for use from six months to a year. Water from an open plastic bottle should be used for drinking within 1 week.
When buying water in such bottles, you should take into account the date of bottling, because the “fresh” the water, the longer it can be in a suitable condition.
