The process of storing wheat is quite simple, if you do not neglect the important advice of experienced people in this matter. There are several common methods that allow you to keep seeds in a suitable condition for as long as possible.

What is the best way to store wheat, and what is the most suitable place for this?

Before sending for storage, grain must be disinfected, because it may contain spores, which later form mold, and insects.

It is correct if the room where the wheat will be stored has:

  • low level of humidity (15%; at high levels the grains may turn sour);
  • protection from light;
  • good ventilation.

The optimal shelf life of wheat intended for baking and feeding livestock is considered to be up to 6 years, and that which is planned to be planted cannot be stored for more than a year and 2 months. The thermometer readings in the room where the grain is located should fluctuate between +10 °C…+25 °C.

Unrefined wheat can be stored for up to a year, or even more. It is recommended to periodically inspect the crop so as not to miss the appearance of mold or pests.

Suitable container for storing wheat harvest

Ideally dried supplies should be stored in fabric (made of natural breathable material) bags that have ties. This is the simplest option, but not ideal. Storing in such packaging will not protect the grain from spilling, because the fabric may tear, and if you place the bags in an apartment room, it will not look aesthetically pleasing.

It’s good if it is possible to store grain in glass containers or wooden barrels. You can also purchase special bags that need to be attached to the wall.

For large stocks of grain, for example, for feeding birds, it is best to have a concreted, iron-lined room. In such a place it is stored in bulk.

If there is little wheat, then it can be placed in special boxes-lockers. Regardless of the container, it must be placed on some kind of stand so that the seeds do not draw moisture from the floor.

How to store grain for germination and already sprouted wheat

Seeds that are planned to be germinated in the future should not be processed at high temperatures. Naturally, such grain will last longer, but it will no longer be as useful as initially.

Dry glass containers, which should be covered with gauze, or canvas bags, are suitable for storing wheat for germination.

To feel the benefits of sprouted wheat, it must be consumed over a fairly long period. Therefore, you should properly store it in the refrigerator and prepare it in small portions, since after 2-3 days the product will no longer be so miraculous.

It is worth taking into account all the wishes for storing wheat at home from specialists, otherwise it will not be possible to preserve the grain in a suitable condition over a long period.
