Anyone who often buys Turkish delight knows that the key to success in this business is the correct choice of products. That is, the shelf life directly depends on the quality.

How to choose the right Turkish delight so that it lasts longer

If you do not neglect several rules when buying Turkish delight, you will be able to purchase high-quality products that can be preserved longer.

  1. Many sellers store oriental sweets incorrectly. It should not be packaged in cardboard or cellophane containers.
  2. It’s very good when you have the opportunity to buy Turkish delight in a specialized store. There it is stored in a special refrigerator, without boxes. The Turkish delight that is sold on the street is usually weathered.
  3. Improper storage of a sweet product by sellers may be indicated by “retracted sides” and a matte, rather than shiny, color in the cut.
  4. A natural product cannot stick to a plastic bag. After compression, the Turkish delight should return to its original shape.

It is important to remember: having bought a natural, high-quality product, you can be sure that it will be usable longer than a low-quality one.

Rules for storing Turkish delight

Turkish delight will not spoil soon after purchasing it if provided with the right conditions.

  1. It must be stored in an airtight container, since sweetness generally “does not like” air.
  2. The best place to store Turkish delight is the refrigerator (+5...+10 °C).
  3. After opening the package, the product must be wrapped in parchment paper (if it is not available, regular paper will do, only on the condition that nothing will be printed on it). Under no circumstances should you use cellophane or foil for this (the treat will quickly steam in them).

The optimal shelf life is considered to be from 1.5 to 2 months. But some Turks are confident that it can be stored for up to six months, focusing consumers’ attention on the fact that after 2 months the sweetness will become hard and lose its former taste and aroma.
