How to create the necessary conditions for storing stewed meat
There are no preservatives in homemade stew, but even at home you can achieve a long shelf life if you follow a few rules.
When saving such meat, the thermometer readings should range from 0 °C to +20 °C.
In a room with high humidity, corrosion will begin to spoil the lid, then it will be impossible to talk about tightness, which is very important in the process of preserving the meat product.
Plaque and dark spots on containers of stewed meat should alert you. It is better not to eat such a product. The stew should be stored in a place where it is dark and cool. The maximum shelf life of canned meat is up to 3 years (some store-bought products indicate a period of 4 years, or even 5 years).
What and where can you store stewed meat?
At home, naturally, the best container for storing stewed meat is a clean, dry glass jar, hermetically sealed with a metal lid.In factories, meat is placed in metal cans with sealed edges. In the second case, canned food is stored longer.
In a refrigerator
There is no way to store a large amount of stew in a refrigerator. Only open meat preparations are stored in it (no more than 2 days).
In the freezer
If you cannot eat the stew immediately after opening, and there are no dishes with this ingredient on the menu in the near future, then the meat can be sent in a zip bag or in an airtight tray to the freezer for no more than 2 months. You can also store unopened canned meat, but this is somehow illogical, because this does not increase its shelf life.
In the kitchen
Stewed meat does not like light, but it is quite normal at fairly high temperatures. Therefore, it can be stored in a closed kitchen cabinet away from a heat source for up to 3 years. Naturally, you cannot leave an open can of stew on the kitchen table.
It is worth noting that the layer of fat under the lid helps to extend the shelf life of canned meat; this, as it were, “complements” the tightness. You should not eat stewed meat if there are doubts about its quality. This can pose a serious health risk.
