How to make cherry syrup at home: recipe for making cherry syrup

Although sweet cherries are closely related to cherries, the two berries have slightly different flavors. Cherries are more tender, more aromatic and sweeter. For some desserts, cherries are better suited than cherries. You can save cherries for the winter in the form of compote, jam, or boil syrup.

To prepare cherry syrup you need:

  • 1 kg of ripe cherries, better than red varieties;
  • 1 kg sugar;
  • 1 liter of water;
  • 5-7 gr. citric acid.

Wash the cherries thoroughly and add them to the pan.

Pour water over the berries, bring it to a boil and cook for no more than 10-15 minutes.

Strain the cherry broth through a sieve and leave it to cool.

If there is a lot of pulp left in the juice, strain it again. Pour the cherry juice into a saucepan, add all the sugar and place the saucepan on the stove.

Bring the syrup to a boil and turn down the gas. You should not boil the syrup too much, because as it cools the syrup will become thicker.

Add the juice of one lemon or citric acid to the syrup and immediately pour the syrup into prepared bottles.

Cherry syrup can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
