How to dry pears for the winter: in an electric dryer, oven or microwave
Store-bought dried pears are often treated with chemicals for a beautiful appearance, for longer storage, to speed up drying, and this is impossible to determine by eye. It’s better not to take risks and harvest pears yourself, especially since there are a lot of drying options, and each of them is equally good.

Preparing pears for drying
Despite the fact that the drying methods are different, the preparation of pears is the same. For drying, select slightly unripe, hard fruits. Wash them, cut them in half, remove the core (optional).
Prepare the syrup:
For 1 liter of water, add 400 grams of sugar and 10 grams of citric acid.
Pour the pears into the boiling syrup, cover the saucepan with a lid, and turn off the gas.
Wait until the pears have cooled completely, and only then place them on a sieve or colander to drain the syrup.
Pears dried in an electric dryer
You can dry pears in halves or slices, the quality will not suffer, only the drying time will change.
Set the temperature in the electric dryer to 60 degrees and dry for 12-15 hours, turning off the electric dryer from time to time to rearrange the trays.

Drying pears in the oven
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the pears in one layer, and setting the temperature to 60 degrees, continue drying for 2 hours.
After this, increase the temperature to 85 degrees, and after two hours, reduce it again to 60 degrees. All this time, the oven door should be slightly open. Keep an eye on the pears so they don't burn.
Drying pears in the microwave
This is the fastest way, but also requires constant monitoring. Place the pears on a plate covered with baking paper, set the power to 200-300 W (depending on the model of your microwave), time for 5 minutes and press “Start”.
Stay close to the microwave window and watch carefully. Stop the process from time to time and check the condition of the pears, because the state from “why, nothing is happening” to “oh, embers” happens in a matter of seconds.
If 5 minutes of constant monitoring seems too much to you, turn on the “defrost” mode for 30 minutes, and you can go about your business.
Storing dried pears
Dried pears, like all dried fruits, should be stored in a glass container with a tightly closed lid. If you are not sure that they have dried well, place a regular paper napkin under the lid. It will absorb excess moisture and prevent the pears from becoming moldy.
