How to freeze mint
Young green mint contains in its leaves a lot of essential oils, which disappear during flowering, and even more so, when the mint is dried for the winter. You can preserve all the useful and pleasant properties of mint if you freeze it. Depending on your needs, this can be done in several ways.
Frozen mint sprigs
With this method, whole sprigs of mint are frozen. Usually the top with 5-6 leaves is taken, without inflorescences and withered leaves. The mint is washed and dried on a towel. Then fold the sprigs into small bouquets and wrap the mint bouquets with cling film in small rolls.
This method is good if you like to add mint to meatloaves as a green layer.
Frozen mint leaves
If you need fresh mint to decorate dishes in winter, you can freeze it in individual leaves. As in the first option, the mint is washed and dried on a towel. We separate the leaves from the stem with scissors, or simply tear them off and place them in plastic containers or glass jars with lids. No preliminary preparation is needed; send the filled jars directly to the freezer.
Mint in ice cubes
This is the most beautiful way, and just as simple as the previous ones. The most beautiful mint leaves are selected, maybe small tops, and placed in ice trays.
To make the ice cubes transparent, you need to fill the leaves with chilled boiled water. Carefully adjust the leaves so that they are completely in the mold and freeze. If there is a lot of mint, but only one mold, shake out the frozen cubes into a Zip-Lock bag, and you can pour a new portion of mint cubes again.
Mint puree
Some housewives actively use mint to prepare their masterpieces. In such cases, you need a lot of mint, and preferably immediately ready for use. To do this, mint puree is frozen.
The puree is prepared only from leaves that need to be torn from the stem. Place the leaves in a blender, add a little water and grind them into a paste. This paste should not be too thick, otherwise the leaves will be difficult to grind. When you are happy with the consistency, place the mint puree into ice cube trays and place in the freezer.
This mint is suitable not only for meat dishes; you can make marshmallows, jelly, or marshmallows from mint puree. You are guaranteed juicy summer taste and aroma in the middle of winter.
