How to freeze sea buckthorn
Sea buckthorn berries are not often frozen; they are usually processed directly into butter, jam, or juice. But nevertheless, it may happen that in the middle of winter you suddenly need fresh berries, and a bag of frozen sea buckthorn will be very useful.
In the case of sea buckthorn, the most labor-intensive process is its cleaning.
Cleaned, now you need to wash the berries. Fill the sea buckthorn berries with water and change the water several times so that all the leaves and debris float to the surface.
Drain the water through a colander, spread the berries on a cloth in an even layer, and let them dry thoroughly.
After the sea buckthorn has dried, pour it onto a tray or tray in the same thin layer, and put it in the freezer for 1 hour, setting the temperature as low as possible, for quick freezing.
The ideal temperature is -22 degrees. With gentle freezing, the skin may burst, and when defrosting you will get malasha porridge. So, the freezer is at the right temperature, the berries are freezing, and you prepare the container. To do this, you need small plastic containers or cups with a lid, in which the berries will not be damaged, will not crumble, and will remain intact, even if the freezer is full to capacity.
An hour has passed, get the berries. They are already frozen enough that they can be poured into containers.
Date the container. I have no doubt that you will use everything by the end of winter, but still, you need to know the shelf life of frozen foods. For sea buckthorn this period is 9 months. And remember, re-freezing sea buckthorn is impossible.Defrost exactly as much as you need right now.
