Date compote - 2 recipes: an ancient Arabic drink with dried apricots and raisins, date compote with oranges
The date contains so many vitamins and beneficial nutrients that in the countries of Africa and Arabia, people easily endure hunger, living only on dates and water. We don’t have such hunger, but still, there are circumstances in which we urgently need to gain weight and feed the body with vitamins.
Date fruits have a lot of contraindications, but this mainly applies to people with diabetes or excess weight. So, consider this point before buying dates.
Date compote should not be stored for the winter. After all, it comes to us in dried form, and can be stored in this state for a very long time. And it’s better to prepare each new portion of compote every time you need it.
Date compote with orange
Date fruits themselves are very sweet, and when cooking compote, you don’t need to add sugar at all. And to dilute this sweetness a little, it is recommended to add sour apples or oranges to the dates.
For 2 liters of water take:
- A handful of dates;
- 2 small oranges.
Rinse the dates in cold water. Peel the oranges, divide them into slices and place everything in a saucepan. Pour water and put the pan on the fire.
Once the water boils, cover the pan with a lid and remove it from the heat. Let the compote brew and cool on its own.
Ancient Arabic drink
Arabs believe that when dates are cooked, they lose most of their beneficial properties. Therefore, they prepare date compote in their own way.
Take one handful of dates, apricots (or dried apricots) and raisins, put everything in a jug. Pour one liter of cold spring water and leave to steep for 8 hours.
During this time, dried fruits are saturated with water and, in turn, give the water all its taste and nutrients.
