Have you ever been interested in the question of what cereals are made of? What about potato ones? In this recipe I will tell you how potato cereals are made: white and yellow. You won't be able to buy them in a store or market, because... These simply aren't on sale today. But from this old recipe you can learn how to make cereal with your own hands at home from ordinary potatoes.
Our ancestors prepared starch (potato flour) and potato grits in the fall, after they had already harvested potatoes. This was done in a good year, mainly from small potatoes or from potatoes damaged during the digging process. In addition, in the fall, potatoes are mealier, which means more starch was produced.
How to make cereal from potatoes.
First we need starch, you can buy it or cook it yourself.
Add only egg whites to the starch and knead a very thick dough.
Then grind it through a thin sieve and spread it in a thin layer on a flat surface.
We dry it in a warm oven, or you can oven it, we monitor the temperature - it should not exceed 40°C. If it is higher, the cereal has a chance to turn into paste.
Grind the dried cereal with your hands so that it is even finer. But you don’t have to do this. White potato grits are ready!
And if we want to prepare yellow potato grits, then the manufacturing technology is similar to that written above, only in this case we take only egg yolks.
