Homemade ginger syrup with lemon/orange zest and juice: how to make ginger syrup with your own hands

Ginger itself does not have a strong taste, but its healing properties cannot be ignored. It’s nice when you have the opportunity to make healthy things tasty. Ginger syrup is usually boiled with the addition of citrus fruits. This enhances the benefits of ginger and expands its uses in the kitchen.

Ginger syrup is added to champagne, lemonade is prepared from it and added to the filling when baking. Sweet, aromatic and extremely healthy, ginger syrup will not stagnate in the kitchen for long. There are many recipes for making ginger syrup and here is one of them:

  • Ginger root 500 gr;
  • Juice of lemons or oranges;
  • Water;
  • Sugar 500 gr;
  • Lemon or orange zest.

Squeeze the juice from lemons and oranges and add water so that the total volume of liquid is 0.5 liters.

Put the juice and water on the fire and add all the sugar.

Ginger root should be peeled, washed and cut into small pieces or grated.

When the sugar is completely dissolved, pour the prepared ginger root into the pan and adjust the gas to the lowest heat. The ginger root should simmer for 30 minutes if it is grated, up to 1.5 hours if the pieces are large.

10 minutes before the end of cooking, add lemon zest to the syrup.

Strain the hot syrup and pour it into small containers.

The syrup for this recipe is quite concentrated, and you only need a little bit of it.
