How to make raisin syrup - homemade recipe
Lovers of home baking know how valuable a product raisins are. And not just for baking. There are many recipes for appetizers and main courses that use raisins. For all these dishes, raisins need to be boiled so that the berries soften and reveal the flavor. We boil it, and then without regret we pour out the broth in which the raisins were boiled, thereby depriving ourselves of one of the healthiest desserts - raisin syrup.
After all, it is easy to prepare, and the benefits from it are incredible. Raisin syrup is used for colds and weakened immunity, and girls trying to lose weight should not avoid it. Of course, for the diet, the syrup is prepared with honey, but in other cases, glucose, in combination with a wide range of raisin vitamins, is simply a salvation for a weakened body.
To prepare the syrup, we need to prepare a decoction of raisins.
For 1 glass of raisins, take:
- 1 l. water
- 0.5 kg sugar.
Place the raisins in a colander and rinse them under cold running water.
Shake the raisins into a saucepan, add water and put it on the fire.
As soon as the water boils, reduce the gas to the lowest setting and cover the pan with a lid.
If you need raisins, do not overcook them, otherwise the berries will spread and it will be problematic to use them in baking.
On average, raisins are boiled for 10-15 minutes, after which the broth must be strained. This time is enough for the broth to become saturated with the taste and aroma of the berries.
Now you have raisins and a decoction from which you can make syrup.
Pour sugar into the raisin broth, put the pan on the fire again and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved and the consistency of liquid honey is reached.
Raisin syrup has a strong and somewhat cloying taste. Therefore, 3 minutes before the syrup is ready, it is recommended to add the juice of half a lemon or lemon zest to it. After this, pour the syrup into clean, dry jars and close them with lids.
Raisin syrup is one of those products that can easily withstand long-term storage and does not require special conditions. At room temperature, the syrup will last for a year without any problems. But there is no particular need for this, because raisins are a product that is always available and its price does not change depending on the season. There is always the opportunity to cook a fresh batch of syrup and at the same time prepare some dish with raisins for your loved ones.
