Almost immediately the onion will begin to release juice. To speed up this process, the mass is stirred. Within half an hour, the sugar crystals will completely dissolve, and the onion slices will be almost completely immersed in the syrup. This syrup is carefully scooped up with a spoon and served to the patient. Adults can also use the onion slices themselves for medicinal purposes.

Onion syrup for children
This recipe is more suitable for treating picky children who completely refuse to take medicine infused with fresh onions.
A large onion is cut into cubes or half rings. The product is placed in a small saucepan and covered with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Pour 100 milliliters of water over the mass and place the container on the fire. Cook the drug over medium heat for 4 minutes. Until the liquid cools completely, keep the onion in a saucepan with a lid. Afterwards, the mass is passed through a sieve.
Onion syrup with sugar and honey
To prepare the medicine you will need:
- 500 grams of onion,
- 700 grams of sugar;
- 40 – 50 grams of honey;
- 1 liter of water.
Combine the chopped onion, sugar and water in a small saucepan. Cover the bowl with a lid and put on fire. Simmer the mixture over low heat for 2 hours. The boiled onions are removed using a sieve, and honey is added to the syrup that has cooled to 50 degrees. Mix everything well and pour into jars.

How to take syrup
Onion syrup is taken according to the following scheme:
- children under 12 years old: 4 - 5 times a day after meals, 1 teaspoon;
- adults: 4 – 8 times a day, a tablespoon.
Storage conditions
Syrup made from a small amount of ingredients can be stored at room temperature for 24 hours. Large doses of syrup should be stored in the refrigerator. In the cold, fresh onion syrup does not lose its medicinal properties for up to 5 days.
Syrups prepared by heat treatment of vegetables should be stored in tightly sealed containers in the refrigerator.
