Sage syrup - homemade recipe
Sage has a spicy, slightly bitter taste. In cooking, sage is used as a seasoning for meat dishes, and as a flavoring agent in alcoholic beverages. Most often, sage is used for medicinal purposes in the form of syrup.
There are a number of contraindications, especially for pregnant women. Therefore, read the warnings first, and only then decide whether to prepare this syrup or not.
To prepare medicinal sage syrup you need:
- 2 tbsp. l. sage leaves. You can use pharmaceutical collection, or fresh leaves;
- 250 gr. flower, or any other, but liquid honey;
- 1 tbsp. l. freshly squeezed lemon juice;
- 100 gr. water.
Add sage leaves to the pan.
Mix honey with water and pour this mixture over the leaves.
Place the pan over the lowest heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
As soon as it boils, add lemon juice, cover the pan with a lid and remove it from the heat. Wrap the pan with a thick towel and let it steep for an hour.
Strain the syrup and pour it into a bottle.
You need to store your homemade sage syrup in the refrigerator for no more than a month. It’s better not to stockpile it for future use. After all, you can always buy sage leaves at the pharmacy and prepare a fresh portion of healing syrup.
