Beetroot syrup is not just a sweet drink, but also an excellent natural food coloring in cooking. I am a fan of preparing various desserts and cakes, and in order not to add artificial colors to my culinary products, I use wonderful beetroot syrup prepared according to this homemade recipe.
How to make natural food coloring from beets.
The burgundy-colored beetroot must first be washed to remove any remaining soil, peeled, and washed thoroughly again.
We cut larger root vegetables into 2-4 parts and then fill them with water literally two or three fingers deep and boil until fully cooked for 3-5 hours. It will be good if you can do this as a couple.
Next, you need to finely chop the finished boiled beets and strain the juice through cheesecloth.
Mix with the juice released during cooking of root vegetables and strain again.
Then, we continue to cook our syrup, stirring it occasionally. Add granulated sugar to your taste after the mixture has boiled to the desired state.
If you don’t expect to store such a preparation for a long time, then you can store it simply in the kitchen, but of course, it’s better in the refrigerator.
But if you cook beet syrup for future use, then you need to add a little (about one gram per liter of juice) citric acid or lemon juice to it just before boiling. Citric acid will prevent it from becoming sugary and will give it a pleasant sourness.
