Cherry leaf syrup recipe - how to make it at home

A bad cherry harvest does not mean that you will be left without cherry syrup for the winter. After all, you can make syrup not only from cherry berries, but also from its leaves. Of course, the taste will be somewhat different, but you won’t confuse the bright cherry aroma with anything else.

Syrup from cherry leaves is often prepared with black currants, chokeberries and other garden gifts to give it a brighter color and taste, but this is not for everyone.

Consider a recipe for making syrup from cherry leaves only.

We will need:

  • Cherry leaves, about 400 grams. They can be picked at any time, until the leaves fall;
  • Water 1 l;
  • Sugar 1 kg;
  • Citric acid 1 tsp.

Wash the cherry leaves and place them in a saucepan.

Pour water over the leaves and place the pan on the fire.

Bring water with leaves to a boil and cook for 15 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, cover it with a lid and leave the leaves to steep for 2-3 hours.

Strain the broth and measure its quantity.

Add water to reach one liter again.

You have obtained a decoction of cherry leaves, from which you can already make syrup.

Pour sugar and citric acid into the broth and put it on fire. Stir the syrup so that the sugar dissolves and the syrup does not burn.

The finished syrup should be poured into clean, dry bottles and stored in a cool, dark room.

You can use cherry leaf syrup in its pure form as a seasoning for pancakes or desserts, or use it to prepare homemade liqueurs and liqueurs.
