Fig or male red rowan marmalade (marshmallow, dry jam) is a healthy recipe for delicious homemade preparation.
Red rowan fig is a healthy sweet made from ground and dried fruits that is loved by both adults and children. This tasty preparation is often called dry jam. I came across the name of this delicacy online as male marmalade. Why men's? To be honest, I still didn’t understand.
But let's get to the point. I suggest everyone to master the old recipe for preparing figs and learn how to make dry jam with your own hands.
To prepare red rowan figs, large berries are suitable, which need to be picked after the first frost. If you use berries that have not been “beaten” by frost, they will taste bitter and the fig will not turn out tasty and sweet.
Rinse the collected berries thoroughly and place them in a saucepan, covering it with a lid.
Next, place the pan with the prepared berries in an oven preheated to 50 degrees. After about 5 hours, the berries will become soft and they will be removed from the oven. Then the berries are poured with water just to cover them and put on fire.
Remove the boiled berries from the heat and rub through a thick sieve. Add sugar or honey to the resulting mass at the rate of 1 kg of sugar per 7 kg of puree.
Mix everything well until the sugar dissolves and put the mixture back on low heat. Continue cooking, stirring, until the puree becomes thick and begins to separate well from the bottom.
Next, put the finished fig on a dish, after moistening it with water, and leave it for a couple of days until it dries.
Cut the dried figs into cubes and sprinkle with granulated sugar or powder.
Next, put the pieces of the sweet preparation into a glass jar or clay vessel, cover it tightly with parchment and take it out into the cold for storage.
In winter, rowan figs are consumed as an independent delicacy. Also, it can be used to decorate confectionery products. As you can see, preparing figs is quite simple, and both children and adults will enjoy it.
