Salted lard with garlic in a jar
Today we will prepare salted lard with garlic in a jar. In our family, the choice of lard for salting is made by the husband. He knows which piece is best to choose and where to cut it from. But it always takes into account my preferences that the lard should have a slit.
Salting is the work of men. Therefore, I just took step-by-step photos and carefully followed the process so as not to miss anything when writing the recipe. This, by the way, is very convenient, because taking photographs when your hands are greasy is another activity. 🙂 I am sharing the result of our joint work.
So we need:
- lard with a slot - 1/2 kilogram;
- garlic - 1-2 cloves;
- salt - 2-3 tbsp. spoons;
- spices (coriander, pepper and others) - to taste.
How to pickle lard with a slot with garlic in a jar
To prepare salted lard with a slot, you first need to purchase a fresh, beautiful and appetizing piece. I have friends who raise pigs, so I buy lard while it’s still warm. I don’t salt everything at once, because freshly salted lard is much tastier. Therefore, I cut the lard into pieces of half a kilogram each and put them in the freezer.
When you take a piece of lard out of the freezer, you should first put it in the refrigerator to defrost. Skip this process if you bought fresh lard and are going to salt it right away.
Cut the lard into pieces approximately the same size as shown in the photo.
Peel the garlic and wash it.
Pour the salt into a deep container, where it will be convenient to roll pieces of lard. Roll each piece of lard in salt on all sides, as shown in the photo.
Cut the garlic into slices.
Place pieces of lard, slices of garlic into a liter jar, sprinkle with your favorite spices. For us it is coriander and black pepper. Cover with a lid and place in the refrigerator.
Salted lard with garlic will be ready the next day. Everything is very fast and simple. Before serving, the piece should be cleared of salt and cut into pieces.
Place the salted lard cut into pieces on a plate and serve.
This dish of Ukrainian cuisine will be best combined with classic borscht. Store lard in a jar in the refrigerator. If liquid has formed, it must be drained.
