Delicious sun-dried cherries
Instead of raisins or other purchased dried fruits, you can use home-made dried cherries. By making them yourself at home, you will be 100% sure that they are completely natural, healthy and tasty. Such sun-dried cherries are preserved very well if they are properly dried and prepared for storage.
Processing of spoiled and dirty berries should not be allowed. We will deliberately not add sugar, which makes it possible to eat the product for those for whom sugar is not recommended for consumption. We won’t cook the berries either. Dried cherries are made from ripe fruits. You can even use sour berries. In winter we can simply roll them in powdered sugar and bake with them whatever our heart desires.
How to make dried cherries at home
We select good berries without rot.
We look through each berry and separate the seed. Place the peeled berries in a colander so that the juice released from them will drain. We place these disassembled berries on a baking sheet and place them in the sun.
We should cover the berries with a net, but so that it does not lie on our cherries, but only acts as a barrier to flies and midges.
Drain the juice from the baking sheet, if any has formed, turn the cherries over the next day. When drying, do not leave the berries outside overnight, as they will become damp.
After 3-5 days, the dried cherries will be ready.
For storage, put it in small sterile jars.Screw them on with clean lids. Can be placed in bags and stored in the freezer until use. Store until winter. In winter, it is very good to add such sugar-free dried cherries to sweet pies. They will give the necessary sourness to sweet baked goods. A striking example of such baking are Easter cakes and muffins. The dough itself is always sweet for them and piquant dried cherries with sourness will be very appropriate.
